Sink, 2023

18x24. Oil on Canvas.

Elia, 2019

18x24. Acrylic on canvas.

This piece illustrates my younger sister, Elia.

In the realm of art history and the greater mainstream media, white figures are more readily recognized and validated. I wanted my little sister and other Asians to be able to see themselves depicted as powerful and beautiful. I wanted to show an Asian-American female in a powerful pose, as if she were a goddess-like figure, at peace, and comfortable in her own skin.
